Friday Favorite

Three words: Brittany Farina Art. Love her work. Love her style. Love that she gives back to animal rescue.

Go here to check out the coloring book she created to support Southeast German Shepherd Rescue. And what about this one she did for Amazing Grace Horse Sanctuary-beautiful!

I bought this tee shirt, necklace, and magnet a few months ago. They are gorgeous! IMG_0570

Can’t wait to get the order I just placed for two of the coloring books, a tee shirt, and a pair of earrings.

If you order, use coupon code fam-and-friends for 25% off an order of at least $20.

Is there an artist or craftsman whose work you admire?

Friday Favorites

Today I have two faves to discuss.

Camp NaNoWriMo

First up let’s talk about Camp NaNo. For writers the whole NaNoWriMo phenomenon can be either supremely inspirational and motivating or completely overwhelming. The concept is simple-write a 50,000 word rough draft of a novel in one calendar month. The big National Novel Writing Month is November. Writers from around the world gather in person and in NaNo chat rooms to challenge and inspire each other to write, write, write. The mantra for many participants is BICHOKTAM. It means butt in chair, hands on keyboard, typing away madly. Personally, I love it.

So where does Camp NaNo come in, you ask. Good question. So for those who either can’t get enough in November or who can’t participate in November or who just want a little less intense version, Camp NaNoWriMo comes to the rescue. But for Camp NaNo, participants group together in cabins, private groups of writers who cheer each other on. Each participant has to create a project and set a goal. It works with the user’s main NaNo log in info. It’s up to each cabin to create their own activities, meet-ups, virtual write-ins.

This July my goal is 20,000 words on my kitlit project tentatively titled For the Love of Grendle. Yeah, I stink at titles. Seriously.

The cabin I’m part of rocks. I don’t think any of us are writing the same genre. We’re a mixture of age groups. Some of us are unpublished while some are published. But we’re all cheering for each other and celebrate even the tiniest of successes.

Honestly, I think I’m having more fun than in NaNo of 2014 when I wrote like the wind and won a few days before the end of the month. I suspect I’ll be a fixture in Camp NaNo world.

Wine in Grocery Stores

Now, let’s talk about wine. I’ve never been much of a drinker, since college, anyway. I have three remaining of a six pack of Guinness I bought probably four or five months ago. And, Guinness is my favorite beer. But on July 1 a law we voted on a couple of years ago became effective. Grocery stores can now sell wine. I haven’t bought wine in years. Not because I don’t like it or have anything against it. Just don’t like to drive out of my way to make another stop at a liquor store. When I did the shopping on July 1 I decided to support the law I voted in favor of and buy a couple of bottles of wine at Kroger. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. And, hey, wine (in MODERATION) offers several health benefits. You can do a Google search for that one. There are a bazillion links.

What are you particularly enjoying right now? Have you discovered a new product or service you’re excited about? Share in the comments. And if you have any wine suggestions for me, I’d love to hear them.

Workout Anytime

For many years I’ve intermittently used the gym at work. But lately it’s just been too difficult to fit into my schedule. Last year a new Workout Anytime location opened just a couple of miles from my house. Two weeks ago I decided to cancel my membership to the gym at work and join Workout Anytime. I’d been paying $30/month for a membership I had not used in about a year at the gym at work. The membership to Workout Anytime is $25/month. So I not only have full flexibility in my workout schedule, I save $5/month.

Friday Favorites

My new favorite thing? Riding the train to work. Really.

A few years ago the regional transit folks in middle Tennessee resurrected an old passenger rail line. Just one line which serves only one corridor into Nashville. It was kind of a test, I think.

I didn’t buy in for a while. Decided to give it a try this week. Man, do I love the Music City Star! No driving in Nashville traffic. Heaven on rails!!!

Now to get in a routine where I can write for the 30 minutes I’m on the train twice a day. 🙂

Today I want to share with you my favorite dog food review website-Dog Food Advisor. It’s so hard to know what to feed our furry buddies. With the help of the information on Dog Food Advisor, I chose a food that is rated above average, is affordable for our household budget, and most important, helps our three dogs thrive.

The home page is simple and easy to navigate:

The “About” page provides information about the founder and about the information you can find on the site.

Here’s the page with the review of the food our three dogs eat. As you can see, the reviews are thorough and objective.

You can sign up to be notified via email of any pet food or treat recalls in the United States. Most pet parents I know definitely want to know about any recalls. I signed up several years ago and have never had a problem with too many or unwanted emails. I’ve only been emailed about recalls, no marketing or s*%m.

There’s even a user forum so you can interact with other pet parents who are interested in pet nutrition.

Check out the site for yourself. I think you will find it a useful resource to help you take the best care possible of your furry best friend.

What’s your favorite pet nutrition website?

Friday Favorites and Update

UPDATES

Yeah, so the last two weeks I’ve been a slacker-only posting Friday Favorites. Sigh…I could list all the excuses, but they don’t matter. So, goal for next week-at least three posts. Hold me to it.

FRIDAY FAVORITES

Doggy Toothpaste

We all know dental care is important for humans, but did you also  know it’s just as important for your dogs? I intend to do a post devoted solely to canine dental care, but for today I’m just going to post my favorite doggy toothpaste.

Friday Favorites

Time for Friday favorites. But before I get started, I have to say a huge TGIF!!! This week just about did me in.
Enough of that. On to this weeks faves.

ChuckIt Balls for Dogs
These orange and blue balls keep our Border Collie and our German Shepherd mix entertained for hours at a time. Which means Daniel and I are also entertained for hours. They are durable, easily cleaned, and difficult to destroy. Though our small bully breed mix has successfully destroyed them in the past. But he had to work at it. If you have dogs, try this toy.

My Coffee Cup
Daniel bought me this cup several years ago at the LIfeway store in downtown Nashville. For no reason. Not my birthday. Not our anniversary. Just because he was thinking of me and wanted me to know. How could this not be my favorite coffee mug? It makes me smile just to see it.

Friday Favorites

Since I really enjoy Friday Favorites posts on other people’s blogs, I thought I’d join the fun. Every Friday I’d mention a few of my favorite things. And, yes, there will be recipes involved.

Potato Wedges
When I started trying to cook more so we would eat out less, one thing Daniel really missed was potato wedges. You know, those greasy, completely unhealthy things you can get at pretty much any grocery deli. So, off to Pinterest I went. Seriously, how may recipes for potato wedges can there be? Found one to try. While a little time consuming, it’s very simple, and very, very delicious. Also pretty versatile. You can change up the taste based on which seasonings you use. Click here http://www.rockrecipes.com/baked-wedge-fries/ to find the recipe.

My iPad Air 2
Yeah, I love this thing. Full disclosure: this is the first Apple product I’ve used. I’ve been a PC and Android woman all along. But when my desktop computer died, I needed a quick and easy solution. Since my Android tablet was upgrade eligible at Verizon, I decided to try the iPad. Of course I read reviews and played with the store demo first. But I think I made the right decision. In fact I’ve decided to save my money for a MacBook Air instead of buying another PC desktop.

International Delight Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer
Seriously, y’all, it’s so much better than Coffee-Mate’s version of the winter favorite. It’s much more pepperminty. If you enjoy Peppermint Mocha check it out.

What are some of your current favorites? What item have you discovered recently you can’t imagine ever going without?
